The Plum Island Wind Park is a 100% privately funded research, development, and demonstration project that will be the first in the U.S. to study offshore wind power, one of the largest untapped sources of renewable energy.
This project will provide the proving ground for a new technology that will enable Winergy Power LLC to locate offshore wind energy farms in deeper water, considerably farther from land than is currently possible.

The Plum Island Wind Park will be located in waters more than two miles east of Orient Point off the northeastern tip of Long Island, New York. The project will be comprised of three 3.6MW. The site was selected because of its relatively remote, yet accessible location. The wind turbines will be located within a site that also the benefit of a completed Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for an offshore fish farm and is within a restricted use zone leased from the State of New York until 2037.The area has wind speeds of class 6, which are economically viable for wind development and is near an onshore electric substation. Even though we are developing a new deep water deployment technology it is not economically feasible to place a pilot three turbine R&D project in deep water. This is due to the considerable cost of laying cable 12-15 miles from shore to connect to the power grid.

We here at Winergy Power feel it is important to make the public aware of this proposed offshore wind energy project. To best inform the public we have placed an announcement about the Plum Island Research, Development and Demonstration Wind Park in numerous local newspapers.
